Empty Calories and the AMA Bombshell

Cristin E. Kearns, DDS

I hate the stupid, old term “empty calories.”

I think it creates a dangerous complacency.

But it’s still in use even today.

A kind of “no big deal” – it’s just empty calories. Not great for my weight but otherwise a harmless little treat.

While it seems to be fading in use these days (thank goodness) I still think people, of a certain age, still use it and think about it – in that way – when they ingest sugar.

They think: – well, it’s not the best for me but, again,  – “no big deal.”

Nothing could be further from the truth…

I can quote chapter and verse that the idea that all calories are equal has been debunked.

Energy in, energy out – hogwash.

Or you could read all 640 pages of Gary Taubes’ seminal work: Good Calories, Bad Calories. Still in the top 50 books in some health categories over eight years later – with over 800 positive reviews!

Some calories are toxic.

I include sugar among them (and seed oils but that’s another post.)

They contain absolutely no vitamins, no minerals, no enzymes literally nothing of value…

Well in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the proverbial s*&t just hit the fan.

See it here

Cristin E. Kearns, DDS, MBA and her colleagues published a review of secret documents, just recently uncovered, that tied sugar to heart disease decades ago….

…only to have that info whitewashed and manipulated so the consumer didn’t get any of it.

Reading the study is a little boring but the NY Daily News makes it a little simpler with the great opening line:

“Looks like the sugar industry is a big fat liar.”

Bottom line is, and you’re here so I’m preaching to the choir, it’s time to evaluate our sugar habits in light of the new information that comes out daily. I honestly can’t keep up with it anymore.

But this site is about prevention and recovery.

I don’t like to use the scare tactics honestly but I think that people need to know what they are up against. And lots of people really lean on the professionals and experts in their lives to tell them the whole story. But with the accelerated world we live in it’s almost impossible to keep up with everything.

If you’re ready to quit sugar for good or to explore controlling its use in your life check us out here.

You’ll never meet a finer bunch of kind, thoughtful people ready to help you in any way they can to master sugar in your life.

Talk real soon,

Be well,

Michael
