What Happens AFTER a Sugar Detox or Sugar Withdrawals?

Sugar Detox, Sugar Withdrawals

Sugar detoxes are all the rage.

7-10-21 and 30-day detoxes are all over the Internet.

Stand alone books are coming out weekly covering the entire day’s and week’s long detoxes.

I applaud them all.

I love them all.

The more information we get out there the better.

There are lots of ways to detox and we certainly don’t own the only formula.

When people first start learning about sugar and how it affects us it’s because they usually want to lose a few pounds or help with symptoms of diabetes.

During those initial days, they focus on the food, the sweets, and the drinks.

These are important factors in the early days. We need to separate what is food and what is not. We need to be able to identify the “hidden added sugars” that we were eating. We need sometimes to learn about – or I really should say – be reminded of what good and proper nutrition is.

And we definitely need to go through the sugar withdrawal process so we can get to the other side and decide if we like ourselves better on sugar or off.

Sounds simple so far.

The problems arise AFTER the detox.

After the withdrawals.

Many times we are on what is commonly referred to as a “pink cloud.”

We feel incredibly good physically. We’ve lost some weight. We’ve been free of sugar for some short period of time.

These feelings of increased energy and positive well-being are all new to us. We feel kinda high just living life.

Maybe we’ve started walking or some other exercise. People comment on our weight loss or our “glow”.

Then life steps back in.

The program is behind us. The new friends we made are fading away and we end up back in our life with the same issues, struggles, and difficulties that we had before.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard about the diets where people have lost all the weight and then gained it all back and then some?

The following is the reason.

As I’ve mentioned before – real, true sugar management takes an unusual amount of long term support. This has been verified many times by owners of treatment centers and long-term educators in the business of helping people with sugar and food addictions.

This is a habit that is decades old.

This post is too short to explain exactly why but trust me, with over 25 years free from sugar and experience helping hundreds directly and thousands through SugarAddiction.com, the next phase is far more important than the sugar detox.

This is where we re-learn habits.

Where we change our methods of coping with life’s ups and downs. Our old standby sugar is no longer an option.

Most of have already been here.

We’ve done Adkins or South Beach or a comparable diet that restricts or eliminates “the white stuff”. But we were still focused on the food, the exercise.

We had not taken the mental and emotional leap to exploring the possibility that we had used these substances unconsciously to manage our emotions since we were kids.

Changing that behavior is our specialty our only goal, our magnum opus.

If you step back and look at your own history and then step even further back you’ll see the falling back, the yo-yo dieting and the failure to “stick with other diet plans” all revolves around this cycle of – quit for a time, feel and see the success and then gradually fade back to just like you were before.

This pattern is legendary in all the literature and diet information out there.

The stats are staggering.

It’s like 90% plus of people who lose good amounts of weight gain it all back and some even more. Why do you figure that is with all these diet books and detoxes out there?

It’s because of what happens After the Detox that’s the important part.
