This Shouldn’t Be This Hard! “Today is the Day!”

Just a nickel.

Five American pennies.

If I just had a nickel for every time I’ve heard that one. “This Shouldn’t Be This Hard!”

Especially on about days 3 to 6 of a detox.

“It feels like I’m a drug addict”

“Why are these cravings so strong?”

And the saddest one: “I just can’t do it.”

Grown, responsible adults – hurting.

Not from trying to quit nicotine or heroin.

But trying to quit sugar.

Trying to just go a few days without so they could see how their body and psyche felt without sugar.

Man, I get it.

Did I ever tell you about the Tylenol ™ stains on my pants?

So it took me about two years total to completely quit sugar.

I would go a day, a week, maybe a little longer and then I’d cave. (I was missing huge parts of the process that we now teach)

Then I’d start using sugar all over again.

The problem with that old method is that you have to start over from the beginning each time.

Well during that time I’d quit EVERY morning. Every morning I’d say to myself:

“Today is the Day!”

Just to cope, I would place two Tylenol ™ in my pocket to ward off the headache that always came at 4:00 on the days I was sugar-free till then.

Just normal living(rain, sweat etc.) and the occasional times I washed the pants with the two little pills in the pocket produced these two little pill stains on my pants!

I’ve tried everything. And those things that I haven’t tried – I’ve heard of by now – almost 30 years later.

I’m not going to tell you this journey is a walk in the park, but there are some shortcuts and methods you can use to make it as easy as possible for you.

The first step is willingness.

Willingness to look at the issue from a little above yourself – the so called 30,000 foot view.

Ask yourself these questions:

How many times have you tried to quit?

Are my sugar withdrawals the only thing stopping me?

What would my life be like at my ideal body weight because I was able to eliminate the white stuff?

Be objective.

Think of this as any other project you want to accomplish. Leave the detox and the withdrawals out of the equation for now.

We all know that we need to walk through that but if you’ve failed up until now then you haven’t concretely formed your WHY.

WHY are you wanting this?

What benefits will accrue to you when you are successful?

Weight loss.

Wellness (diabetes)

Nice skin

Peace of mind/less anxiety

Fill in the blank for yourself right here___________.

Your “why” is very, very important.

If you can’t concretely see it and define it then this attempt will be like all the others.

We specialize in folks who have tried everything.

The ones that don’t have a “knowledge gap”, some literally know more than me about “nutrition.” But they still can’t get off the sugar.
