The State of Sugar Addiction – 2017

The State of Sugar Addiction - 2017

If you can believe this, it rained this weekend in sunny Southern California.

Yeah, no hater emails, please. I know the folks in the north have it pretty bad this year.

So I spent some of the weekend reading Gary Taubes new book “The Case Against Sugar.”

I’ve always been a bit of a big picture guy and details are hard for me. In reading Gary’s book the picture he paints, as he says, from the point of view of what a prosecutor would do in a legal case, is pretty overwhelming. He is masterful in his research, science, and history. And he’s a darn good story teller.

We are reaching a tipping point in the US and worldwide.

A tipping point where there is sufficient information, science and research for folks to be alerted to the hazards of sugar abuse.

In our lifetimes (well most of us) we’ve seen cigarettes go from being advertised on TV to basically vilified and not allowed anywhere near a public building or vehicle.

Was it the slow evolving news of lung cancer?

Was it the tobacco litigation that the states waged against the tobacco companies resulting in a multi-billion dollar settlement?

Who knows.

What we do know is ATTITUDES changed and cigarette consumption went way down and fast.

From nonsmokers being passive receivers of second-hand smoke to them becoming militant anti-smoking advocates with the government backing them up.

Before we non-smokers were just like “don’t smoke in my house of my car.” But these days we have the rights and the sentiments of most of the population to relegate smokers to the outside of buildings.

Look, I know that nicotine may be THE hardest drug on the planet to quit and I am an addiction reformer.

I’m not getting down on the smokers. I used to smoke myself when I drank.

I’m trying to make the point that sentiments and attitudes are changing around sugar and they are changing fast. It seems like the cigarette thing happened overnight – poof – and it totally flipped.

Well, the same grassroots groundswell is happening with sugar.

We are putting the finishing touches on the 2017 Kick Sugar Summit and I will have interviewed 20, what I would call, blood brothers and sisters about sugar addiction and sugar abuse.

It’s been a lonely journey these past four years with the site and sometimes I lost interest. But these folks have energized me.

Every one of them is helping folks come to terms with their sugar use. It’s their full-time job! Who knew?

Anyway, the tipping point where attitudes change I predict will be more like the attitudes for alcohol in the world. It’s going to be a little slower than the cigarette thing.

Folks are not going to just give up sugar until some definitive scientific report comes out that says this stuff causes X. Now the bright light in all this is folks might do it for their kids..

So where does that leave you?

You’ve done your research.

Most of it with your own body.

You’ve tried again and again to quit only to find yourself back using.

There is another saying I like: “This is the right side of history”.

Most of our clients are a little rebellious.

Pioneers of sorts in their families, careers and businesses. They kinda like rockin the boat. They kinda like going first.

I get that feeling YOU kinda like rockin the boat. That you kinda like going first at stuff…

Well here’s your chance. To both be “on the right side of history” and to put your sugar thing behind you for good.

We have a real special treat coming up next Monday. Real special.

But for this last week, you can be grandfathered into all of it for the old pricing.

Everyone who is in our little group before the new “2017 Sugar Challenge” starts will receive everything the new folks do at the lower price.

It’s the first Monday, of the first week, of the first month of 2017.

Take. Action. Now. You’ll be glad you did.

Waiting till next Monday? You’ll be sorry… hehe
