15 Sugar Detox Symptoms and How to Beat Them.

Most people who join us are curious about sugar detox symptoms and want to know what to expect.

Somehow they think that knowing what is coming will help them through.

I’ve tried telling people it will be easy. Just a little headache maybe. Trying to downplay the physical and mental symptoms of a sugar detox – but that approach usually failed.

Many folks just breeze right through it.

They say things like “it was no problem”.

“No sugar cravings at all” or “just a normal day”.

I would have to say that those people are in the minority. Many are athletic and substitute some heavy exercise for their habit and double down on healthy food.

First off, many were in really good shape to start with and a week or ten days of great food, extra strenuous exercise, lots of water and extra sleep and anyone is going to breeze through.

But for us mere mortals…

Sugar addiction detox symptoms disrupt our lives a little more.

Not to the point where it isn’t worth doing but enough that if we go in prepared we fare a little better.

The reason I’ve decided to list the symptoms is simple. A lot of times people confuse sugar detox symptoms with some dire illness or serious disease and run to a doctor for pills or potions to help. That, my friends, is the fastest way to failure.

Not that you shouldn’t check with your doctors before you attempt any health regimen but I’ve never heard of a doctor saying that cutting back on sugar is a bad thing.

Problem is that not all doctors know how hard it can be sometimes – for some of us. Plus maybe we’re not 100% honest with them about exactly how much we’re ingesting.

We all hide sugar consumption in some way. At least the folks who end up on this site usually do.

Anyway, on to the symptoms.

15 Symptoms of a Sugar Detox

  1. Cravings
  2. Headaches
  3. Depression
  4. Anger
  5. Fatigue
  6. Irritability
  7. Mood swings
  8. Flu-Like
  9. Weight changes
  10. Sleep changes
  11. Anxiety
  12. Insomnia
  13. Appetite changes
  14. Dizziness
  15. Shakes

I think the key thing to keep in mind is that not everyone will experience all these symptoms. But what I want to stress is that all these symptoms are very real and not cause for too much alarm.

Dizziness and the shakes are very rare but people with heavy sugar habits do sometimes experience them.

In reading all the symptoms you think Oh My God!

When you experience them without knowing that’s what they are – it’s worse. Many people just quit and unconsciously re-ingest sugar to stop the symptom.

They don’t consciously say to themselves:

“Wow, I’m a little more irritable than is good for doing my job today.” They just simply give in to the overarching craving for just a little bit of sugar.

Most people never connect the two!

They don’t consciously say: “Mike told me that these things might happen as a I quit my lifelong sugar habit. And if I just stay the course and get through 10 or more days sugar free then I’ll feel fine.” *Which is true BTW.*

We’ve had people run off to doctors of all kinds, for pills of all kinds, just to deal with the symptoms listed above. And I can understand it. Some are scary if taken out of the context of your sugar withdrawals but please resist the temptation. You are not sick and these symptoms will pass.

You will heal.

You will feel so incredibly better!

It’s like night and day.

Please just put the sugar down, one day at a time, (sometimes one hour at a time) and we’ll see you on the other side.
